Let’s celebrate the greatest couples in the world of rock and/or roll.

1. The White Stripes
For a while, no one knew what the hell was going on between Jack and Meg White. Were they brother and sister? Were they man and wife? Or just good friends? Well, despite Jack often stating that Meg was his sister, the pair were in fact an item. They married in 1996 and divorced in 2000. He took her last name, originally being called Jack Gillis, because he thought it sounded better.

2. Brody Dalle and Josh Homme
Brody Dalle, of The Distillers and Spinnerette fame, was originally married to Rancid frontman Tim Armstrong, who she divorced in 2003. Presumably wanting a partner in a less intense rock band, Dalle married Josh Homme in 2007. The couple have two children and Brody has appeared on two QOTSA albums and the latest two records by Eagles Of Death Metal. Photo: PA

3. Keith Richards and Anita Pallenberg
Model Anita Pallenberg was originally in a relationship with Stones guitarist Brain Jones, but she controversially left the erratic musician to start courting Keef. Although they never married, the couple had two children and were together until 1980. She’s also reported to have had a brief affair with Mick Jagger. Surely, drummer Charlie Watts must have felt left out? Photo: PA

4. Mick Jagger and Marianne Faithfull
In 1966 Mick Jagger and singer-songwriter Marianne Faithfull began a much-publicized relationship. By the end of the 1960s, The Rolling Stones had taken over the world and Faithfull’s drug issues started to spiral out of control. Although the pair split in 1970, Faithfull not only co-wrote Sister Morphine from 1971’s Sticky Fingers but is also said to have inspired some of the Stones’ biggest hits, including Wild Horses. 5. Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love
Kurt and Courtney first met in 1990 and, while Cobain initially evaded Love’s advances (who wouldn’t?), the two married two years later. The couple are often described as being “bound by drugs” – you know, until he shot himself – which is about as romantic as it gets. Photo: PA

6. Damon Albarn and Justine Frischmann
The Blur singer and the Elastica frontwoman were Britpop’s hottest couple. Despite living in the media spotlight, the bond inspired some of Albarn’s most poignant tracks, with both Tender and No Distance Left To Run is reportedly about their 1998 break-up. Photo: PA

7. Sid Vicious and Nancy Spungen
Some would say Vicious and Spungen had a turbulent time together, and those people would be right. After meeting in the mid-1970s, Sid and Nancy had a relationship wrought by drug use and domestic violence. By 1979 the Pistols had split up, and both Spungen and Vicious were dead; the former by a stab wound and the latter from an overdose. It’s kind of like punk rock, Romeo And Juliet. Kind of. Photo: PA

8. Win Butler and Regine Chassagne, Arcade Fire
Meeting at McGill University, Montreal in 2000, Win Bulter asked jazz singer and multi-instrumentalist Regine Chassagne to join his band. It’s lucky she accepted. By 2003, the pair were married and now, in 2014, Arcade Fire are set to headline Glastonbury. They also have a baby. What a lovely story. Photo: PA

9. Pete Doherty and Kate Moss
They were occasionally called the Sid and Nancy of the noughties. He was a singer-songwriter in one of the biggest bands of the moment. She was one of the most famous models in the world. Throw excess and tabloid slander into the mix and what do you get? Well, not a lot. The pair eventually split, which was probably for the best.

10. John Lennon and Yoko Ono
One of the most enduring stories of rock and roll LURVE started in 1966 when the Beatle attended the Japanese artist’s conceptual art show in London. Love soon blossomed and the pair became inseparable, much to the annoyance of the other Beatles. Despite their ups and downs, the pair remained married until Lennon’s murder in 1980.
